Every industry depends on standards, regulations, and documented processes. Yet the greatest challenge has never been finding the requirements—it has been helping people understand them, apply them consistently, and demonstrate conformance.
GapCross founders Ed Nodland and Clay Moore began working together on digital regulatory solutions long before GapCross existed.
Over three decades of helping organizations work with complex standards and regulations shaped the ideas that eventually became GapCross.
That experience continues to guide everything we build.

In the early 1990s, Ed and Clay focused on helping organizations navigate complex transportation regulations. At a time when most regulatory information was available only in printed books, they developed digital tools that transformed thousands of pages of technical regulations into practical digital resources. Intelligent navigation, cross-references, structured formatting, and powerful search capabilities made it easier for users to locate, understand, and apply complex requirements.
As regulations evolved, so did the technology. Over the following decades, they continued developing solutions that reduced the gap between written requirements and real-world implementation. Working with organizations across changing regulations, evolving standards, and increasingly complex compliance programs provided an important insight that still guides us today:
People rarely struggle because the information is unavailable—they struggle because translating written requirements into everyday work is difficult.
That realization became the foundation for GapCross.
Launched in 2016, GapCross was built to go beyond providing access to standards and regulations. Our vision was to create a platform that enables organizations to transform requirements into practical digital workflows—without writing computer code.
Applications built with GapCross guide users through audits, assessments, inspections, procedures, and many other operational activities. They capture step-by-step evidence, record who performed each action and when, and create secure, permanent records that demonstrate conformance.
Rather than treating standards, regulations, procedures, and audits as separate activities, we bring them together within a single digital framework. Requirements become guided workflows. Procedures become interactive work instructions. Assessments become opportunities to gather objective evidence. Organizations don't simply read requirements—they implement them consistently while creating the records needed to demonstrate conformance.
